Log Axis Charts

Logarithmic charts are very similar to the normal charts, except that they use a logarithmic axis rather than a linear axis. They are very useful when the data to be plotted varies widely over a huge range, i.e. it contains both very small values and very large ones.

Here is how a chart with a huge range looks with a linear axis:

You can customize the base of the logarithmic axis as well. In the chart below, it is set to 100.

You can use either the column or the line chart with the logarithmic scale. With both of these charts, you can:

  • Set any positive base (apart from 1) for the logarithmic scale
  • Inverse the logarithmic Y-axis to plot rankings
  • Specify custom upper and lower limits for the y-axis.
  • Customize minor divisional lines between any two major divisional lines.
