is it possible to do a line chart or something similar where the x axis is a true date/time axis?

what i dont want is each data point i pass in to be equally spaced like a standard chart is. eg. if i pass in 01/09/07 as point 1, 03/09/07 as point 2, 04/09/07 as point 3 then i expect to see a gap on the graph that would have been the 2/9/7.

also the ability for it to be able to process the time element of the date as well such that there can be n points between days at their relative position through the day but only have days labelled on the chart for example

any thoughts / suggestions etc would be appreciated as i am looking to find a chart package that can do all the things i need across the different charts i use.   So far this is the only thing that i cant seem to put my finger on.

cheers

Andy

Hi,

Currently, we do not support date axis in any of the charts barring Gantt chart. However, if you need a numeric axis, you can use the scatter chart and opt to plot the points as lines.

Thanks,

no it has to be a date / time axis

a considerably disappointing omission from your charts imho.

I agree. We only deal with time series data - data that is not being generated at regular intervals.

Please let me know when the real time charts support this feature as I'd be very interested.

I agree.  I really like the tool and tried out the evaluation version.  It was looking really good.  However, without date options for the axis, we will not be going this route.

I decided to take a few minutes and explore Pallav's solution of using an XY Plot (or Scatter) chart and connect the lines.  It seems to be working pretty well though I am still unable to create an area chart this way (it has to be a line chart).  That's disappointing, but it may be good enough for now.  Still evaluating...

If anyone has advice for how to make this easier, it would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

In case anyone is wondering, I am using <categories> to establish vertical lines on the chart at regular intervals (eg. months or years) while plotting my points <set> at irregular intervals.  So far, this is working great except for the lack of support for an area chart with an XY Plot (scatter) chart.

For such an impressive charting library, this really is an unexpected missing feature. I'd have thought that time as an x axis would just about be the most common type of x axis, and the need to plot irregular values, while not as common, would still be very common. For my app, almost all data I need to plot falls into that camp. As such, are there any plans to add this feature?

thanks,
mick
