DataXML parameter for Gantt Chart

Hello,

Few months (Jan2008) back we have purchased FusionCharts/FusionGadgets. And we have stated using it. This complaint is mailed before but not found and action

We are trying to use Gantt Chart. DataXML parameter we are passing XML string but it is not accepting(It gives Invalid XML Error). DataURL parameter we are able to use but according to our requirement we need to render real time data.
If the Gantt Chart is little long, it hangs and expires at the end.

Different text within bar then plotted value

It's possible to display the plotted value within a 2DBar chart's bar? Each bar is fed by a dataset, so every plotted value is visually displayed as a percentage within the single bar. I would like to display this percentage within the giver part of the bar. For as far as the documentation tells me, only the values uses to plot the resulting bar (of part of the bar) can be displayed (showValues). Is there a way to accomplish what I want? You CAN use a different tooltip, but this tooltip won't show when printing the given chart. I hope I'm making any sense :-)

Since multiple charts are used on "dashboards" (i.e. views that provide sales analysis/chart/graph information) it would be nice to have the option to point one to an XML feed (either in house produced or externally - like a news service) to provide additional information on the "dashboard" in the form of text. I know we could use someone elses flash/xml readers, but since we already own fusionCharts, it would be nice if they came from the same company and had the same look.

I have been working on a site that is using FusionCharts. The value it adds to the project in the clients eye's are invaluable. That being said. I need to be able to generate PDF's of the dynamic reports. XSL:FO doesn't support using SWF as an image file so I need to be able to pull a jpeg(or at worst bmp) out of your chart.

This feature will put FC over the top for me and I'll be able to use it in all my projects.

label option for text, not values

Currently I have not been able to find something that allows for adding text to my charts.

I like the categories, but I don't see any examples for changing the Y-axis.

I would like a text label placed in an X,Y location.
Something like

label x='25' y='60' text='my custom label'
or
category label='my custom label' y='60' x='25' showLabel='1'

If something like this already exists, could some point me to an example in the docs?

New Pyramid Chart

After impressing my audience with the wonderful charts you offer it was inevitable that there would be request for other styles.

I keep geting asled if I can reproduce the pyramid in the the attached jpeg. It is an excel chart.

Is there any way I can get this effect with FC Dev, Power or Gadgets?

End-User Interactive Capability

The Pie Chart already allows the end user to rotate the chart and move slices. It would be very nice if the end user could manipulate the chart in more ways.

For instance, using the context menu of the chart to switch from 2D to 3D, or from vertical bar to horizontal bar. It would also be nice if the end user could change the properties of individual series.

My generalized question is to provide more context menu's that provide the end-user with the ability to change the chart.

Save as PNG

We loved the new Save as Image functionality in FusionCharts, but we wanted PNG files instead of JPEG. Some minor changes to FusionChartsSave.cs later and we had working PNG exporting.

The new code is attached to this post, no changes were made to the aspx file, but it's included in the zip anyway for futureproofing.

Multiple subcaptions, caption font, category wrapping

1) When creating a chart that's a certain width, sometimes the caption gets truncated because the chart is not wide enough. However other constraints force me to keep the chart width to a certain size. The solution would be to allow for multiple "subcaption" tags instead of only one. Or, to have an equivalent of an HTML <br> in the caption/subcaption to cause it to break at certain points.

2) Is there a way to increase the font size of the caption/subcaption? The default is fairly small.

3) Long category names implore the use of a horizontal bar chart. When doing a horizontal bar chart a long category name can push the chart very far to the right. It would be nice if the category label could be wrapped rather than stay on one line. Example:

I have found the need to have extremely long descriptions to adequately document the graphs that I generate through Fusion charts. Is there any way to annotate them? have footers describing the dataset or other things? I have played with making the size of the subcaption smaller and this works to some extent, but it doesn't wrap the caption.

Is it not possible to use fusion charts v3 in asp.net 2003 (C#)? if not, please provide me the documention on how to use fusion charts v3 in asp.net 2003(C#).

bar-graphs fade to white through the bar

Dear Support,

We are using FusionChart ver3.0 for our Coldfusion appliation. The
bar-graphs currently fade to white through the bar. Can we avoid the
fade effect in the bar. i.e can these be changed so that the whole bar
is a single colour please?

I'm a little hesitant to expose all of my raw data as XML, as it could be stolen by using a little javascript hackery. Is there any way to encrypt the data stream sent into fusion charts, or any other tricks to make that data secure? Obviously I could use a picture-based graphing library, but I vastly prefer the small overhead of Flash-based charts (not to mention animated snazziness!)

Modularizing Duplicate Code

I'm making numerous tweaks to the charts and I have the MSArea2DChart doing what we need but now we need the MSLine2DChart to do it too. I'm going over code and things like drawing labels, vdivlines, etc looks to be line for line exact.

So, my request is to better modularize common functionality into utility classes or just put them in a common parent class. This way if people buy the source, like we did, someone poor soul, like me, doesn't have to make changes to every chart source file to fix the staggering logic. :-(

Control over Div Line Depth

We wanted to show our lines behind the graph(s) but they always showed up on top. So, here are the steps I took to allow for depth management (MSArea2dChart.as).

1) In the chart attribute parsing function add a new param for vDivLineDepth (or whatever you want to call it). I set the available values to TOP and BOTTOM.

2) Create a holder variable (MovieClip). I called it vDivLineHolder.

3) In drawVDivLines, add the following code:

This is nothing but a bit of a "hack" to get it to work right. The concept is to add all lines to 1 single parent movieclip vs adding them 1 by 1 to the canvas. There are some other changes that need to be made though.

4) You're going to need to toy with the positioning of the elements. My present source code has numerous other changes so to not confuse I'll leave it as just a notice. Keep in mind you're taking a global x/y value and applying it inside a clip that will start N pixels from the left...just do simple math on it.

5) The last step is in the allotDepths function. Add +1 to the DIVLINES allotment. This way you can swap with that depth (as soon on line 6) which will be empty so you're essentially swapping with nothing.

Line 8 shows you swapping with the legend. It is always going to be on the top of the background anyway so there is no worries of it being too high or too low.

Again, this isn't the absolute best solution but without rewriting a lot of the code this was the best way to meet our needs.

So, to bring this back as a suggestion/request...Fusion, please allow us to control whether the div lines are on top of the graph(s) or behind them.

Dual Y Axis Bar Chart

The MSBar2D.swf allows 2 data series but not separate min-max axis settings.

Great idea for labels

Hi, I use FusionCharts v3 and it's great! Keep up the good work!

One thing I ran into today was the labels. I wanted to display both % value and value, so something like this:

Available (23K), 23%
Unavailable (76K), 76%

Currently, i just have the label be "Available ($number)" and it prints out that automatically. It would be great if you had a system like...

%p = percent value
%n = numeric value

so I can make the label... "Available (%n), %p"
or even something like... "%n Available, that's %p!!"

And you can add more %[x] things if you can think of it. %c for color, i guess. it would show a cube with the color in it or something.

Add new attribute to the element to show custom values

It would be nice to be able to set a custom value that is shown on the chart with the plotted item. The tooltip feature is nice but the user has to interact with the chart to see the custom text.

For example

1. Mouse over hot spots:
I use a tablet much of my day. For the Scatter charts, the icons are really small.

If a hotpot could be identified, say iconRadius='12' would be 12 pixels or something like that.
i know this might be difficult for overlapping or data points that are very close.
This hot spot would go outside the icon.

Also, to that note, can we modify the size and type of icon?

2. Zooming in / Out with click drag functionality:

I think this would be a great improvement to the simple charts, but I also think it should be something we can enable/disable.

Chart Stacking

We need to show the comparision of a series of data -- say, the loan application count, amount, reject count and reject ratio month to month in 2007. We have to stack two fusion charts. The top charts shows the count/amount with a dual Y bar/line chart, and the bottom is another dual Y bar/line chart. However we would like all the months' data to align vertically. Currently we have to play with the all the margins/paddings -- kind of tough because the Y Axis label width is also changing depending on the dynamic data. Is there anyway to make it easier, something like an option to fix the ditance from the Y Axis to the canvas border (or some even smarter way)?

I have been using fusionCharts for a quite long time and have mostly been using in HTML pages and js pages.

I have recently started working on Flex and found it difficult to integrate FusionCharts. Though I found a work around for the same but that does not look like a perfect solution. I earnestly request you to create FusionChart components in AS3.0 making it useful across technologies.

Ability to add state values to a chart

I am evaluating various charting tools for an application and FC does almost everything I need. One missing feature, which I simply may not have figured out yet, is the ability to add state values to a chart.

Let me explain. First, take a look at the attached image.

The single state in this instance is the coloured horizontal bar at the bottom of the graph with the legend "Surface state" against it.

The state is interpreted as a colored block whose width is determined by the x value and whose height is determined by configuration. Some states are binary and some have multiple values.

So, in the above image there are two state values depicted by red and blue and the state is red from 00:00 to 09:00, then blue until 18:00 then red until the end.

There may be multiple state 'bars' which have a configurable gap between them. State bars could be displayed above or below the chart and would have the same x axis as the charted data.

It would also be good to have tool tips showing a textual representation of the values. For example, warm for red and cold for blue.

Can this already be done or it is worth adding?

Flash cs3 and actionscript 3

Smarter smart labels for pie charts

We've upgraded from FusionCharts Free to FusionCharts v3 and one of the features I was really looking forward were smartlables for pie charts.

Unfortunately these still have several rendering problems as labels are still being cut off, even if they are not that big.
I really wouldn't mind if it would cut of labels, but it should add an ellipsis to the end keeping tooltip with the complete value.
I know I could do this in code, but it's not easy to calculate the trimming point (it should be dependent of the start of the smart label) and I would still like to show percentage and the full label in the tooltip. I've seen other posts explaining how to use the grid to create a legend but that's also not an option for us because we do not have enough screen real estate as this is being shown in a dashboard.

Your charts really look great and we love all the features, this is the only major issue we have with them.

Do you have any plans to fix this annoyance?

Currently my team is working on a real time monitoring report which is using the "realtimeline.swf" chart. After working on the report, we feel that this chart can be further improve with addditonal of the few features below:

1. Anchor Coloring for Real Time Data in Real Time Charts.
2. Tool Tip Text for Real Time Data in Real Time Charts.
3. Coloring between particular Horizontal Divisional Lines.

Hover and mouseover events

Great job with this code. Its the best out there. One thing I'd love to see is some simple ways to customize mouse over events. Even something as simple as highlighting a bar with a fade when moused over would be great:

I'm not action script inclined but I would imagine an effect like this would not be hard to add and it would make an already excellent GUI even better. I would love to see something like this in a new release.

User experience improvement

Every time you perform an action on the forum your get a large red message explaining that your action has been executed successfully.

Red means : error, warning, danger

A message saying everything is OK should be green, never red.

Keep axis synchronized

In all charts having several axis it will be very useful to have an option to keep all axis synchronized.
It's not convenient to set the Maximum scale value of all axis because then you loose automatic scaling.
